PORT WARATAH COAL LOADER

Situation

DMS were looking for a smart solution for access for their painting works on the Port Waratah Coal Loader. Being a shutdown project speed and efficiency were essential but high levels of safety had to be maintained.

Solution

AllRound Access produced a Layher solution that ensured the project ran on time and well under budget. Our design and methods used Layher’s ability to crane pre-assembled scaffolds and it’s capacity to cantilever using the load bearing diagonal braces. AllRound Access worked hand in hand with DMS to develop an induction and work method process that ensured all scaffolders and painters were working in partnership with Port Waratah’s principle of “The safe way is the only way at PWCS”.

HAMMERHEAD CRANE

Situation

Built in 1951, and one of only 15 still standing around the world, Garden Islands iconic Hammerhead Crane had not been in use since 1996. When inspection works were required to investigate the effects of 60 years of corrosion, Allround Access were called in to replace the access system.

Solution

Allround utilised Layher with its impressive cantilevering and load bearing capabilities to design a more modern platform that allowed workers to now feel safe whilst standing on the deck. The entire scaffold was craned into position in sections including the 40m high stretcher stair access. This design is one of the most impressive examples of the Layher System being utilised in a way that approaches its potential.

Infrastructure

WARDELL BRIDGE, BALLINA

Situation

Wardell, located off the Pacific Highway south of Ballina, is known by its landmark bridge built to replace the ferries and barges used to transport cedar and sugar cane in the 1800s. This iconic bridge was in need of maintenance.

Solution

AllRound Access provided an access solution for blasters and painters, just metres above the Pacific Highway. The solution demanded an innovative design that incorporated deck-to-deck and deck-to-ledger transoms, along with overhead protection.

YASS DAM

Situation

Geotechnical engineering required an access solution to a specific section of Yass Dam in order to complete some demolition and construction works. Known to be amongst the most challenging access problems, dams are simply not designed for people to get access on or around them.

Solution

AllRound provided a Layher scaffold that built on the ground and then craned into position - even over existing columns. This efficient design and installation method eliminated the risk of falling into the water, reduced the risks of working from height, and also reduced scaffold labour costs significantly as it was much quicker to build this structure at ground level.

Commercial

ASTOR, MACQUARIE STREET

Situation

Situated in the heart of Sydney's CBD, this 1920's apartment block is one of Australia's earliest concrete-framed skyscrapers, so protecting the facade of the building was important during a refurbishment exercise.

Solution

AllRound Group installed 4000 square metres of facade scaffolding, to a height of 40 metres, decked every 2 metres on a single standard. The solution also incorporated a full height stretcher stair.

UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY SYDNEY

Situation

Located on one of Sydney's busiest roads, the Broadway UTS building features a “Binary Screen” with ripple effect and makes the use of all conventional forms of access obsolete. Further, sections of “Wing Beam” protrude from the corners and can reach out up to 8m in places.

Solution

The access solution required a swing stage with the ability to trolley in and out from the building to a maximum of 4m. Our design team went to work using state of the art engineering programs to devise a system that would tolerate the extreme forces.
